Loblolly Bay is the best-known snorkelling beach on Anegada’s north shore — a long sweep of white sand with the reef lying close enough offshore that you can swim to it from the beach. Because Horseshoe Reef takes the force of the ocean swell further out, the water inside is often calm and clear even when there is weather offshore.

What to expect on the beach

The snorkelling is genuinely good: coral heads in shallow water, reef fish in numbers, and the occasional turtle or ray moving through the sand patches. It suits beginners and children as well as it suits experienced snorkellers, which is not true of every site in the BVI.

There are a couple of beach bars along the bay where you can get lunch and a drink, and they usually have chairs and shade.

Getting there on your crewed charter

Like everywhere on Anegada’s north coast, you arrive by land rather than by sea, taking a taxi or hired jeep across the island from Setting Point. Combine it with lunch and you have an easy half-day ashore.
