Donovan’s Reef is a snorkelling and shallow dive site in the sheltered water near Scrub Island and Great Camanoe, on the quieter northeastern side of the BVI. It sees far less traffic than the sites down in Sir Francis Drake Channel, which is much of its appeal.

What you will see at Donovan’s Reef

The reef sits close to the surface, with coral heads, sea fans and reef fish in water clear enough that you can see the structure from the boat. Conditions are usually calm because the surrounding islands take the swell, and that makes it a comfortable stop for mixed-ability crews.

This part of the BVI is worth a day in its own right. Scrub Island has a marina and resort facilities, and the anchorages around Great Camanoe are among the quietest overnight options in the islands — a genuine change of pace from Norman Island or White Bay.
